As someone who absolutely hates being cold, I never thought I’d say this—but now I actually get excited for winter. There are plenty of fun things to do in the snow, but lately nothing compares to the adventurous thrill of snowboarding!
When I was younger, I was obsessed with anything that involved a board—skateboarding, longboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, snowboarding…if it had a board, I wanted to try it. Over the years, I gave them all a shot, but never quite mastered any of them. That’s why I made it one of my 2025 goals to finally learn how to snowboard. Luckily, there’s a ski resort an hour from Vegas that’s the perfect spot to practice (I even wrote a full guide to the best ski resorts near Las Vegas here!).
I’ll be honest—my first day back on a snowboard after 10 years was rough. I bought a random pair of snow pants and a jacket last minute, and while they technically worked, I didn’t love my snowboarding fit. The pants were too tight at the waist, so every time I bent over I could barely reach my toes (which made clipping in my boots almost impossible). On top of constantly falling, I ended the day with swollen knees, a bruised tailbone, and zero confidence—not exactly the snowboarding comeback I had envisioned.
The second time around, I came prepared. I invested in a proper womens snowboarding outfit—complete with a matching jacket and bib, plus my own boots, helmet, goggles, and padding. The difference was night and day. I still fell (a lot!), but I wasn’t scared to fall this time. I felt comfortable, protected, cute, and—most importantly—confident enough to keep getting back up. As NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders said, ‘When you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you do good.’ Turns out, that applies to snowboarding too.
After just three ski trips, I was finally out of the beginner stage—and even bought my own snowboard to celebrate! Looking back, I can confidently say your snowboarding outfits makes a huge difference on the slopes. The right gear doesn’t just keep you warm and protected—it helps you feel good, ride better, and actually enjoy the experience.

Women’s Snowboarding Clothing Essentials
Wondering how to dress for snowboarding? I’m sharing the must-have clothes to wear while snowboarding to stay warm and stylish on the slopes!
Base Layer
Styling the perfect snowboarding outfit starts with the right foundation—your base layer. Think of your base layer as your second skin, this means you’ll want to wear breathable and moisture-wicking fabrics that will keep you dry and help to regulate your body temperature. Opt for a thermal base layer made of merino wool or synthetic material.
Protective layer
When learning to snowboard—or pushing your limits on tougher runs—adding a protective layer can make all the difference. Gear like knee pads, butt pads, and a helmet help absorb impact, prevent injuries, and give you the confidence to keep progressing. Knee pads cushion hard falls, butt pads protect your tailbone during slips, and a helmet is essential for head safety on the slopes—even if you’re not a beginner (studies show that most head injuries on the slopes are caused by collisions, and there’s a high chance someone else can collide with you even if you’re not actively riding). Investing in the right protective gear keeps you safe, comfortable, and ready to ride longer without worry.
Mid-Layer
Your second layer, the mid-layer, is designed to keep you warm. Items like sweaters, fleece pullovers, puffer vests or down jackets are all great options to provide an extra layer of warmth for cold days. Your mid-layer should provide both warmth without restriction so try not to wear more than 2 mid-layer pieces—this ensures you stay warm while being able to move freely. I personally run colder than most so my favorite mid-layer pieces are a lightweight crewneck sweater with a fleece pullover.
Outer Layer
From womens snowboard jackets to snow pants and bibs, your outer layers are one of the must-have winter clothing essentials to shield you from the elements. Look for waterproof materials to keep you dry and other key features like pockets (zippered are best), vents, and full coverage to keep the snow out even during the worst tumbles. When it comes to snowboarding outfits, I personally prefer snow bibs over pants. They provide more coverage, better pocket placement to hold all your things, and more range of motion while boarding. If you’re dead set on snow pants, opt for a pair with either a high waist that’s flexible, or a low rise loose waist so you aren’t restricted when bending. When it comes to snowboarding jackets,
Snowboard Accessories
No snowboarding outfit is complete without the right accessories. Essential pieces like goggles, gloves, boots, a hat, and neck gaiter keep you warm, protected, and ready for any conditions on the mountain. Goggles shield your eyes from snow glare and wind, while gloves keep your hands dry and comfortable all day. Properly fitted snowboard boots are a must for stability and control—the wrong boots can ruin your entire day (unfortunately I learned this the hard way). A neck gaiter adds extra warmth and protection from icy gusts, while winter hats and beanies keep your head and ears warm during the coldest of days. These small details make a big difference in comfort, performance, and confidence while snowboarding.
