Peak Winter (January to February) - January and February are ideal for those seeking the best ski conditions. During these months, you'll find Park City fully blanketed in snow, offering excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding. However, this is also the peak tourist season, so expect larger crowds and higher prices.

Go snowmobiling

There are two top snowmobiling tours in Park City that offer amazing rides and breathtaking views of the snowcapped mountain landscapes. They’re both highly rated and staffed with the best experienced guides who prioritize safety. However, choosing the right one for you is based on which type of experience you’re looking for.

Park City Peaks is located on Utah's highest and largest ranch, with 60,000 private acres at elevations up to 11,000 feet. Their groomed trails offer a smoother ride so you can soak in those incredible views of the Wasatch Mountain Range — perfect for riders who are beginners or would prefer a more leisurely tour.

Backcountry Snowmobiling caters to those seeking a more adventurous and off-the-beaten-path experience. Their tours are held at a 40,000 acre private ranch and venture into more remote and rugged terrain. Explore Park City’s Main Street

Main Street is steeped in history, dating back to the 19th century when Park City was a silver mining town. Many of the buildings have been preserved and restored, giving visitors a glimpse into the town's rich past. The street is lined with a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, and art galleries, as well as historic The Egyptian Theatre, which is one of the venues that hosts the famous Sundance Film Festival. Main Street is very pedestrian-friendly too, so it’s super easy to explore everything on foot, and because it’s nestled in the Wasatch Mountains, it offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, offering visitors a picturesque winter wonderland straight out of a Hallmark movie! I highly recommend grabbing yourself a hot cocoa from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and taking time to explore this cute little town!

Fifth Water Hot Springs

Saratoga Hot Springs

Soak in a hot spring

One of my favorite things about Utah are the hot springs! There are lots of options, but here are the closest ones to Park City you should check out:

  • Homestead Crater (30 mins from Park City & 13 mins from the Ice Castles) - the Homestead Crater is a geothermal spring inside a 55-foot tall, beehive-shaped limestone rock. The water in the crater is warm year-round, making it ideal for soaking, swimming, and even scuba diving. I personally wasn’t impressed with this hot spring as it’s very dark (which is understandable since you’re in a hole haha) and it can get pretty loud due to the echoes of the people inside. I much rather prefer open areas with a view, but if you’re not picky and looking for something close by that’s staffed and safe for kids, this is a good spot to check out!

  • Saratoga Hot Springs (1 hour from Park City) - Saratoga Hot Springs (also known as Inlet Park Hot Springs) is my favorite when it comes to views, distance, and accessibility. It’s a popular natural hot spring located near the shores of Utah Lake in Saratoga Springs. This outdoor hot spring offers a series of small, naturally heated pools, providing a serene and picturesque setting for relaxation and soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters.

  • Fifth Water Hot Springs (also known as Diamond Fork Hot Springs) (1.5 hours from Park City) - This was my first ever hot spring experience and instantly got me hooked! It requires a hike of about 2.5 miles to reach the springs, but so worth it — the reward is a series of stunning, natural hot pools in a beautiful outdoor setting. For all of the details, check out this post: A Guide to Fifth Water Hot Springs in Utah

  • Mystic Hot Springs (2hrs from Park City) - Mystic Hot Springs is known for its unique, rustic setting. The hot springs here are collected in a series of bathtubs and pools, offering a quirky yet relaxing soaking experience. The area also has a campground and cabins, and often hosts live music and other events.

What to wear in Park City during winter

Dressing for winter in Park City, Utah, requires layers and appropriate gear to stay warm and comfortable, especially if you plan to participate in outdoor activities like skiing or snowboarding. Here's a guide on what to wear:

  • Base layers - Start with moisture-wicking base layers, which keep sweat away from your body. These include long underwear and long-sleeve tops made of materials like merino wool or synthetic fibers.

  • Insulating layers - Over your base layers, add insulating layers for warmth. Fleece jackets or wool sweaters are great options. The thickness of these layers depends on the temperature and your activity level.

  • Outerwear - A waterproof and windproof jacket and snow pants are essential, especially if you'll be skiing or snowboarding. Look for jackets and pants with good insulation.

  • Footwear - Waterproof, insulated winter boots are a must. They should have a good grip for walking on snow and ice. If you're skiing or snowboarding, you'll need specific boots for these activities.

  • Socks - Wear thick, warm socks, preferably made of wool or a wool blend, to keep your feet warm. Avoid cotton as it doesn’t insulate well when wet.

  • Accessories - Don't forget a warm hat, gloves or mittens, and a scarf. For skiing or snowboarding, you'll also need goggles to protect your eyes from glare and wind.

  • Sun protection - The sun can actually be intense in winter as it reflects off of the snow. Wear sunglasses or goggles with UV protection, and apply sunscreen to exposed skin.

  • Layering for non-ski wear - If you're not skiing, layering is still key! A warm coat, thermal jeans or pants, and sweaters are suitable for exploring the town.

  • Swimsuit - Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you should forget your swimwear! Make sure to bring one to soak in a hot tub after a long winter day, or if you plan on visiting a hot spring!

Weather conditions can change quickly in the mountains, so it's always a good idea to have extra layers and be prepared for colder temperatures than you might expect. Comfort and warmth are crucial for enjoying all that Park City has to offer in the winter!

What I wore to Park City in winter

I’m all about winter travel outfits that are not only warm and comfy, but super cute and stylish too! For my trip to Park City I packed lots of thermal layers, some sweaters, leggings, a scarf, beanie, thick socks, gloves, winter boots, a jacket and a coat. Fleece lined leggings are a life saver when it comes to keeping warm during winter travels, plus they don’t take up too much room in a suitcase. These wide leg sweater pants have become my favorite winter staple. They’re thick, comfortable, and super stylish — perfect for that cute and cozy winter look! I also recommend sherpa lined jackets and shearling coats, these offer lots of warmth, and they’re super stylish too! I linked what I wore below, plus some alternatives for oos items.
