Las Vegas Packing List: What to Wear in Vegas + Outfit Ideas

As a former tourist turned Vegas local, I've come to learn a thing or two about the fashion scene here. So whenever family and friends ask, “What should I wear in Las Vegas?”, I honestly want to say "Whatever you want!" because literally, anything goes in Sin City! However, that obviously doesn't make it any easier to help them figure out what to pack haha. If you're wondering the same as them, don't worry, my ultimate Las Vegas packing list is here to help!

Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the world, so nightlife, gambling, and extravagant dining are no doubt the main attractions, but beyond the neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip, you’ll find some of the most beautiful landscapes and historic landmarks! From the stunning Red Rock Canyon to the impressive Hoover Dam and nearby Grand Canyon, there is more to Sin City than meets the eye.

With that being said, depending on your Vegas itinerary you'll want a mix of outfits that will keep you comfortable during daytime activities and turn heads when you hit The Strip at night.

So when it comes to packing and planning all of your Las Vegas outfits, I've created this ultimate guide to help you bring everything you need for your trip!

Las Vegas Packing List: What to pack for a Vegas trip

Wondering what to pack for your trip to Vegas? From casual day trips and pool parties to Vegas clubs and fancy dinner dates, I'm sharing the ultimate Las Vegas packing list with everything you need to bring and what to wear in Las Vegas!

Vegas has an eclectic mix of casual and over-the-top glam, so don't be afraid to pack anything with sparkly sequins and fluffy feathers, but you can never go wrong with a little black dress either! If your wardrobe is a bit more laid back, don't worry, the great thing about Las Vegas is that anything goes, so when in doubt stick to your personal style and wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!

When it comes to planning your Las Vegas outfits, your packing options should generally include daywear, eveningwear, swimwear, and if you plan on hitting the gym or a hike during your Vegas vacation, activewear.

Tops

Lightweight tops like t-shirts, tank tops, thin bodysuits, blouses, and crop tops are all perfect for the warmer months (aka Spring, Summer, and early Fall). For the colder months (late Fall and Winter) opt for long sleeves and heavier tops.

Bottoms

Skirts, shorts, pants, and jeans are all suitable bottoms you can pack and wear in Las Vegas. However, I highly recommend you not wear jeans in the summer as the weather is HOT! Try to opt for loose-fitting bottoms during the summer months.

Dresses, rompers, and jumpsuits

Like I said before, anything goes in Sin City! Casual and dressy rompers, jumpsuits, and dresses are perfect! Opt for looser, short sleeve fits in the warmer months and thicker knits and longer sleeves in the winter.

Shoes

If you plan on doing any outdoor activities make sure to bring comfortable shoes for all the walking you'll be doing. For nighttime events like a nice dinner or a club you'll want to dress up in a fancy outfit so bring a pair of dress shoes or high heels. Good news, some Vegas hotels have vending machines that dispense foldable flats, so if your heels wind up bothering you at some point during the night, head to one of these to save your feet!

Swimwear

If you're visiting Las Vegas to lounge at a hotel pool or have some fun in the sun at a pool party, you're definitely going to need a bathing suit and a cute cover up to go with it! There's no limit to what type of swimsuit or coverup you can wear, just make sure you're comfortable! Just remember, the sun is strong here in Vegas so if you plan on wearing a specific swimsuit, be aware of the tan lines it may leave behind.

Tip: Many hotels and resorts require a reservation for certain pools, lounge chairs, and cabanas so be sure to plan ahead!

Activewear

If you're planning on doing some hiking or hitting up your hotel fitness center during your trip, definitely make sure to pack some activewear. For your hike, don't forget a hat and sunglasses to shade yourself from the hot Vegas sun!

Outerwear

Vegas is hot in the summer so you definitely don't need a jacket! However, the casinos and hotels typically have the AC on high so if you tend to get chilly easily (like me), just bring a light cardigan. When it comes to the spring and early fall seasons, the temperatures are cooler and more mild so a light jacket is perfect! For the late fall, I would opt for medium-weight outerwear like a leather jacket. In the winter months, you may be surprised to hear that it actually does get cold in Vegas so heavier jackets and coats are definitely recommended!

Accessories

Accessories can make any Vegas outfit even better! A few items you definitely should pack are a sun hat, sunglasses, a day bag and/or a belt bag.

Other items to pack for Vegas

  • Sunscreen

  • Portable charger (This one is small enough to fit into a clutch and it has a strap)

  • Ear plugs (For those noisy neighbors in your hotel or if you're heading to a free concert on Fremont Street — heads up, the sound system is LOUD)

  • Eye mask (To help you get your bed beauty sleep after partying all night. This one is a blogger favorite!)

  • Mini first aid kit (It's all fun and games until you get a blister or break a nail)

  • Refillable water bottle (The heat in Vegas is no joke and if you plan on drinking you'll want to stay hydrated as much as possible. I love this one because it collapses and has a clip to attach to your bag)

  • Hydration packets (LMNT is my favorite and they're zero sugar with no artificial ingredients, plus they make an easy DIY margarita if you add tequila — thank me later)

  • Hand sanitizer (This lavender hand sanitizer is my favorite and it helps you smell fresh in a pinch haha)

  • Advil or Ibuprofen

  • Travel steamer or wrinkle spray (This is my favorite travel steamer that I take with me on every trip)

  • Government issued ID (Double check that you have this before you leave your hotel room or you won’t be able to access casinos, bars, or clubs)

  • Cash (For tips and in case of emergencies)

Vegas outfits and outfit ideas

Looking for some outfit ideas for your trip to Vegas? I'm sharing some outfits I've worn myself plus Las Vegas outfits to inspire the perfect outfit for your trip to Sin City!

For a casual outfit to wear during daytime activities like exploring the best photo spots in Vegas, I typically wear a pair of denim shorts, a lightweight top, and white sneakers.

For an evening outfit to wear on The Strip sipping cocktails at casino bars or out to a nice dinner, I love a little black dress — like this satin cowl neck mini dress. Personally, my feet don't do well with high heels so I paired this dress with a pair of my favorite ankle boots instead.

When lounging at a fabulous Vegas hotel pool, I love wearing a cute bikini set with a lightweight cover up like these sheer mesh pants, or a crochet skirt. My favorite swimsuit to wear in Vegas is definitely a bikini — the sun is VERY strong here so unless you have a high SPF sunblock or don't mind a funky tan line, I would skip the one-piece swimsuit.

For adventurous outdoor activities like hiking, I always wear a pair of leggings (these Lululemon legging dupes are my absolute favorite), a sports bra, a baseball hat, sunglasses, and a pair of sneakers or hiking boots (depending on the terrain).

What to wear in Vegas for daytime activities

When it comes to daytime activities in Vegas, casual is the way to go. Think sandals and sneakers, jeans or shorts, a tank top, and maybe even a denim jacket for the cooler months.

What to wear for a nice dinner in Vegas

There are tons of nice restaurants both on and off The Strip to have dinner at! The usual dress code for these is typically dressy casual or dressy. Honestly, you can never go wrong with a little black dress, chic jumpsuit, or even a cute two-piece set!

Wondering what to wear for a night out in Las Vegas? From bars and speakeasies to parties and clubs, there are so many things to do, which means you’ll need a cute outfit to wear!

What to wear for cocktails

Every bar is different but for the nicer, more upscale ones, it is recommended to dress up — anything stylish and chic will do! Just no sneakers, sweatpants, or baggy clothing. Dresses, rompers, and jumpsuits paired with high heels or strappy sandals, or even a sexy bodysuit with a pair of faux leather leggings or jeans is a good look!

What to wear to a Vegas club

When it comes to Las Vegas nightclubs, the dress code is dress to impress! Think bodycon dresses, sequins, rhinestones, sexy cutouts, open back and o-ring styles. Heels are recommended but you don't need to wear anything that you can't walk in properly. Wear what you're most comfortable and confident in!

What to wear to a Vegas pool party

For a Las Vegas pool party, a bathing suit is required, but there's no specific style you need to wear. You can opt for a modest or a sexy cutout one-piece, a slinky bikini, or something with more coverage - whatever you feel comfortable wearing! When it comes to cover ups, think wrap skirts and sarongs or dresses made of materials like satin, mesh and crochet.

What to wear for hiking in Vegas

As I mentioned earlier, Vegas has some incredible landscapes for you to explore, which means LOTS of hiking — from Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston to Valley of Fire and beyond! If you’re heading out to hike around Las Vegas make sure to wear an outfit with breathable fabrics, and comfortable shoes or hiking boots! Don’t forget to check the weather beforehand in order to prepare, some of these areas can be about a 10 - 20 degree difference from the temperatures on The Strip. Also, DO NOT forget to bring water!

FAQ: Common questions about packing for Vegas

What is the weather like in Las Vegas in Spring?

The weather is nice but it can be a little unpredictable! There are cooler days around 68°F at the beginning of the season and warmer, summer-like temperatures around 88°F by May. Overall mild and pleasant days with comfortable temperatures at night. However, it's always a good idea to check the weather forecast before your trip, as actual conditions can vary.

What is the weather like in Las Vegas in Summer?

During the summer, Las Vegas experiences extremely hot and dry weather. Temperatures can range from 99°F to 110°F, with the highest I've experienced so far being 117°F. Simply put, Las Vegas is a massive sauna in the summer so make sure to stay hydrated, plan lots of indoor activities, and keep cool in the pools.

What is the weather like in Las Vegas in Fall?

Fall is generally considered a pleasant and comfortable season in Vegas. While you'll still see summer-like temperatures, they're less extreme than the summer months and begin to cool as you get closer to winter. Average temperatures are around a high of 94°F and dip to 68°F by November.

What is the weather like in Las Vegas in Winter?

In Las Vegas, winter is relatively mild compared to many other parts of the United States, but it still experiences cooler temperatures, especially during the nighttime. The winter season in Las Vegas typically lasts from December to February with temperatures being the coldest in January with an average high of 56°F. With that being said, it's definitely wise to bring a winter coat!

What is the best time to visit Las Vegas?

The most pleasant months to visit Las Vegas weather-wise are from February to April and October to November. Summer is the hottest time of the year and it's a popular pool party season so you will see more crowds during this time as well as also around New Year's Eve. Personally, I think late spring and early fall are the best times to visit due to the mild weather and lack of crowds, however, the choice is up to you!

How many outfits should I bring to Las Vegas?

It depends on how long you're looking to stay! Most people go to Vegas for a three or a four day trip. I generally recommend two outfits per day, one for the daytime, and one to wear at night.

How do I plan my outfits for Vegas?

The best rule of thumb is to plan your outfits around your activities! Figure out your itinerary and then curate specific looks to go with each one. Tip: In order to avoid overpacking, try to pack basics and neutrals, as they are easier to mix and match to create multiple outfits.

Is there a dress code for Vegas clubs and pools?

Many Vegas clubs and pools have specific dress codes that visitors are expected to follow. The dress code is usually in place to maintain a certain level of decorum and venue standards. It's essential to check the dress code of each specific club or pool you plan to visit, as they may vary slightly. Most Vegas clubs are dress to impress so no athletic wear, flip-flops, hats or baggy clothing. When it comes to Vegas pools and day clubs, swimwear is required and to get to most of them you'll need to walk through the casino so a cover up is necessary.

Do Vegas restaurants have dress codes?

It depends on the restaurant! Most of the high-end restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip will have a dress code that may require formal attire, while others just ask that you dress nice (aka no sweatpants, baggy clothing, etc). Most of them have their dress codes listed on their website or you can call to ask.

Can I walk around Las Vegas in flip-flops?

You definitely can, but if you're going to do a lot of walking, I recommend wearing cushioned sandals or comfortable walking shoes like sneakers.

I hope this guide helped you figure out what outfits to wear and what to pack for Las Vegas! If you're still unsure about what to bring for your trip, feel free to comment below and I'll help you out! Enjoy your visit in Sin City!
